While on our trip to the area where we got to see "some really old stuff", we stopped in at a restaurant that has become one of our out-of-town favorites. It is just regular local food, but is is really tasty, and really cheap! So, this was our third time at the place (in a city that has seen few foreigners) and we got the same waiter for the third time, and as we sat we noticed some men at another table with a huge camera crew. At the end of our meal, the more distinguished looking of the men (he was a mayor) came over and presented our table with plate of cherries and invited us to his town's annual Cherry Festival! With cameras snapping in our faces, we accepted the cherries and decided we might just go...and we did! But, we were imagining a bit more fun festivities than what actually happened. We got to see the local cherries being judged, then there was a contest for "Most Beautiful" and "Most Handsome" from local girls and boys, and then a lot of speeches. We had a BEAUTIFUL and breezy drive up and back, though, and came home with 2 kilos of very sweet, very good cherries. All in all, it was a good way to spend our Sunday.
